Like the superheroes of old, the AMD Phenom streaks out of the night to lay waste to your enemies. The 9950 Agena has 4 cores that run at 2.6GHz. The quad-core Phenom processor has 128KB L1 and 512KB L2 caches for each core and a total of 2MB L3 cache to buffer really heavy data flows.Memory transfers get faster than ever. HyperTransport Generation 3.0 mode allows up to 16.0GB/s of bandwidth. Add that to the 17.1GB/s from the integrated memory controller for an amazing 33.1GB/s of memory bandwidth.

This unprecedented bandwidth is needed to feed the data hungry AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture cores. You'd think that all of this power could get too hot to handle. AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 2.0 technology works with CoolCore Technology to minimize heat while keeping power and efficiency up. Now the cores can shut down unused parts of the processor when not in use. This saves power and helps to reduce the amount of heat generated. This function is built in so there's no need for drivers or BIOS updates. AMD64 Quad-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance.

Pros:Solid and consistent performanceOverclock Stable on AIR COOLINGExtremely DurableCons:I seriously can't name any other than TLC timing bug. I didn't know it existed until year 3 or so, but once that was handled, this monster's potential was truly unleashed.Overall Review:This was my first real upgrade.

I have seen so many amazing worlds and done so many amazing things because of this CPU. It is finally time to retire my old friend. Over to Intel I go, but I will never forget this absolute IRONMAN of a chip. From hot 3rd floor apartments, to humid summers in our new rental house, this beast has kept me playing literally without fail. Not a crash, not a bug, nothing caused by the CPU itself.

Even when OC'ing. It was always my memory or GPU causing issues.

It's running solid at 2.9 as I write this, and my new parts ship in the mail. Hats off to AMD for this one, minus the pesky little mishap with TLC timing, I don't think I'll ever have another piece of hardware as reliably awesome as this one. Thank you guys for the years of fun. Pros:Cranks through multiple processes like a minature mainframe. Still scores 7+ in Windows 7 even though it's becoming a little dated.

I run two VMware guests OSs plus play BF2 with no stuttering or slowdown. Even tried it one time with a DivX encoding running also and still no slowdown.Cons:Not an AM3 so it will never get to play with DDR3 memory which would be neat to see.

Does generate a bit of heat.Overall Review:Mine is coupled with a Koolance EXOS2 so getting the heat out isn't a problem; I'd be a little careful running this (especially with a high-end graphics card) on air unless you have a really good case with excellent flow. Also, if your motherboard doesn't sport 8 phase VRMs or better, you'll need to cool those down somehow-they get brutally punished with core voltages spiking up and down and heat build-up. Pros:Low cost, fast speed, overclockable.Cons:Runs HOT! AMD still uses vertical standing pins for chip install. Easy to bend if you aren't paying attention.Overall Review:Got this in a bundle deal with the Biostar motherboard, and 4 G of ram for $220.

Hard to go wrong at that price! But I would definately make sure you have a WELL vented case (at least 2 120mm case fans), and get a GOOD 120mm CPU cooler. I used a 120mm Zalman cooler and I idle at 28-30 °C and hit 32-36 °C under load. I would not run this chip with a stock cooler. Pros:Used on a Gaming Rig I built August 2009, this processor is lightning fast.Running SO COLD and SO FAST with a rosewill aftermarket air cooler. O/C'd to 3.1 STABLE AS HELLyou could honestly go to 3.5 on Air cooled and have a great 'daily driver'This thing dollar for dollar GHz for GHz is the fastest processor your money can buy.Battlefield 2142 1080p res and Full settings? Hell yeahOblivion on full settings at 1080p? Not even a blinkthis is on a 9500 GT card, and 4 gig of ram, can you imagine if i actually spent more than 100 bucks on a video card?

The universe would spilt. No doubt.Whatever you want it to do. It does, no questions asked.i can't say enough good things about this CPU.i upgraded from a dual core Turion X64.Cons:I can't afford to buy the whole world one.Overall Review:Dont think about it, AMD makes some great products, this chip is a budget rig masterpiece.
